I went down to the garden last night, and saw what I can only describe as a squash holocaust. Something (squirrel, racoon, groundhog?) had plucked my only squash from its vine and eaten about half of it. The other half was strewn about with teeth marks and was covered in flies. Later, I found a perfectly ripe red pepper half eaten and discarded.
Enumerating the fallen this year: untold tomatoes, several peppers, two squash and an aubergine.
It’s almost enough to make me renounce my vegetarian ways. Whatever is eating my vegetables is organic and locally grown, and definitely needs to get got.
