Food Photography Part IV

For the last session, we brought together both the lighting and composition. Adrien had us build our salads (choosing each leaf individually!) and photograph them. He has us work in teams, and each person was either the set stylist, food stylist, or photographer. It was a pretty fun set-up. So for my salads, my team members built the salad based on my instructions. I chose the leaves and peeled the green onions and carrots, and my team members interpreted my vision.

The first photograph uses a flash as the main light source. It took some doing to get the shadows right and the exposure right, but it turned out nicely.

In the second photograph, a continuous light source (softbox) was used; the real challenge here was getting the cucumber lit properly.

Which do you prefer?
