For the last few months, I’ve been thinking about getting a bike. I was hesitant though because I wasn’t sure I would ride it. I wasn’t sure that I liked riding much (My last experience had been when I was doing triathlons, and that was not fun. Not at all.) However, my bus pass costs around 900$ per year, which is quite a lot money when you consider I don’t use it all that much. Plus, the bus takes forever to get anywhere. It takes just as long on a bus as it takes for me to walk to work. Certainly a good option in -30 weather, but other than that…kindof a waste of time.
I wanted to get around faster, so Ross and I went bike shopping a few weeks ago.
We went to Joe Mamma’s, a bike store in the Glebe here in Ottawa. My friend Tiff told me about seeing cute bikes in the window there, and when I looked online, I knew that I’d found my place. Jose and Hunter (the dog) helped me out. They asked what I was looking for (ok, Jose mostly…Hunter was just kinda hanging out), and were totally open to me needing cuteness in a bike. Jose set me up with a couple of test rides, and even had a bike assembled for me so I could try it in the right size. In the end, this is what I went with:
I really like him. He’s got 8 speeds, an internal shifter,
and now, thanks to my additions, a really cute bell and basket.
I was out of town all last week, and really missed riding my bike around. I think I’m turning into a bike nerd. In fact, when I was in D.C., I made my work colleague go into a bike store with me so I could look at their bikes and check out their accessories. That’s where I got the bike bell.
While writing this post, I noticed that the Linus website has some really cool accessories. Uh oh!
